In general the Australian Alcohol Guidelines recommend consuming no more than 2 standard drinks per day. If you have diabetes and choose to consume alcohol, it is safest to drink alcohol with a meal or a carbohydrate containing snack to prevent alcohol induced hypoglycaemia (low blood glucose/sugar levels). Excessive alcohol consumption also contributes to excess calorie intake which can contribute to weight gain and increased blood pressure.
