  • Leek is effective in eye protection. It contains lutein and zeaxanthin that have eye protection properties.
  • Leek help in weight management. It has low calories, the fiber and water present in leek may give a feeling of fullness and you eat less.
  • Leek is also effective in improving the liver's overall function, it assists in detoxifying the live. This is because of the presence of sulphur compounds in the leek which bind the toxins and eliminate them from the body.

Possible Side Effects

  • Consuming a large amount of leek can lead to oxidative damage to the red blood cells and gastrointestinal tract irritation.

  • Leek contains various nutrients and is packed with benefits from plant compounds as flavonoids, vitamins E, K and A.
  • Leeks is rich in anti-inflammatory compounds as Vitamin E and may protect the brain, because is also rich in folate.

Possible Side Effects

  • Excessive consumption may cause allergic effects.
  • Individuals taking blood thinner should be careful with leek excess once is a vegetable rich in vitamin K.
