Benefits
- Vinegar may be used to treat or reduce the risks of infections because of its anti-microbial properties.
- Vinegar contains acetic acid which may aid digestion and promote gut health.
Possible Side Effects
- Prolonged consumption of excess vinegar may lower the blood's potassium level. Excess consumption may also cause heartburn.
Benefits
- Grape vinegar, also known as red wine vinegar, brings antioxidants from purple grapes, which improve heart health and strengthen the immune system.
- Balsamic vinegar is made from grapes and brings the antioxidant benefits of this fruit, like better cholesterol control, prevention of cardiovascular disease and prevention of premature aging.
Rice vinegar has the advantage of not containing sodium, a mineral that makes up table salt and is responsible for the increase in blood pressure, and can be consumed more frequently by people with hypertension.
Possible Side Effects
- The pH of vinegar is around 3 to 3.5, that is, it is acidic, which against an empty stomach generates a progressive loss of natural protection, which can damage the wall of the gastrointestinal system, causing unpleasant symptoms such as burning and even esophageal erosion. It can aggravate possible undiagnosed gastritis and other inflammatory conditions.
- Apple cider vinegar is rich in a mineral called chromium, which is needed in small amounts to regulate insulin and blood sugar metabolism, but too much chromium can lead to hypoglycemia. Therefore, we must be careful with people who use medication to control diabetes. So, before making any dietary changes for weight loss or health, consult a nutritionist.
- Generally, the consumption of apple cider vinegar for weight loss is accompanied by very restrictive diets, which can reduce the speed of metabolism, causing the so-called accordion effect. Momentarily, weight loss occurs, but it is not sustainable, as it dos not involve dietary re-education and, as soon as the individual returns to the previous eating pattern, the lost weight is regained. In addition, restrictive diets can generate binge eating and increase appetite in an uncontrolled way.
